Odyssey 2005 Conference: "Nursing, the Rhythm of the Universe" The 10th Annual STTI Nursing Honor Society Odyssey 2005 Conference was attended by more than 300 nurses, educators, nurse leaders, and students. More than 60 podium and poster presentations were made during the two day conference. One of the highlights of the conference was a panel of four nurse leaders: Loucine Huckabay, PhD, PNPC, FAAN; Berni Coleman, PhD, ACNP-BC, FAHA; Dorothy Jo Ann Wiley, PhD, MPH, RN ; and (Gamma Tau) Isabelle Purdy, PhD, FNP - who gathered to discuss their vision of the role of nursing through a global perspective. This gathering was referred to as the “Fishbowl”, similar to a roundtable discussion. The speakers discussed four different views of nursing and projected their overall global perception for nursing - how it stands now and for the future. President Elect: Sigma Theta Tau International, Carol Picard, PhD, RN was the keynote speaker on the second day of the conference. Her presentation “My Call to Action Will Be…………….” was inspiring and motivational. The attendees of STTI Odyssey got a sneak preview of Dr. Picard’s vision for the future of STTI. Dr. Picard spoke about the significance of appreciating our professional history and encouraging passion and compassion into our daily life. She attended the Biennial Conference in Indianapolis the third week of November to accept her new position as President of STTI. STTI Odyssey 2005 is an excellent arena for dissemination of research, clinical, and educational topics for the working nurse and student. The topics presented encouraged nurses to make a positive health care change universally, promoted excellence in students and colleagues of nursing, and provided opportunity for networking.
